Celebrating the cultural and economic legacy of Northeast India – Launch of ‘Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav’ website

In a significant move to spotlight the rich cultural heritage and economic potential of Northeast India, Union Minister for Communications and Development of the North Eastern Region (DoNER), Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia, launched the official website for the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav on September 13, 2024. The launch took place at Sanchar Bhawan, New Delhi, marking the government’s unwavering commitment to promoting the region on both national and global stages.

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav, scheduled to be held from December 6th to 8th, 2024, at Bharat Mandapam, Pragati Maidan, New Delhi, is an event dedicated to celebrating the cultural, textile, and economic wealth of the eight Northeastern states—Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim, and Tripura. These states are collectively referred to as “Ashtalakshmi,” symbolizing eight forms of prosperity.

The newly launched website, www.ashtalakshmimahotsav.com, serves as the primary platform for updates, event schedules, and participation details. It provides users with essential information about the Mahotsav and will act as a hub for seamless engagement for both national and international participants.

While launching the website, Shri Jyotiraditya M. Scindia emphasized the importance of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav as a means of bridging the cultural and economic divide between the Northeast and the rest of the country. He noted, “The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav will not only showcase the cultural richness of the Northeast but also serve as a catalyst for economic development, creating new opportunities for artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs from the region.”

Highlights of the Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav

The Ashtalakshmi Mahotsav promises to be a vibrant celebration blending fashion, culture, and business. Some key highlights of the festival include:

• Textile Pavilions: Special showcases of the Northeast’s famous Muga and Eri Silk.
• Crafts Demonstrations: Live artisanal craft-making sessions, where visitors can witness the intricate craftsmanship of the region.
• Geographical Indication (GI) Products: A dedicated section for products that hold GI status, promoting the unique offerings from the Northeast.
• Fashion Show and Design Conclave: Featuring designers and models showcasing the beauty and elegance of Northeast India’s traditional textiles.
• Buyer-Seller Meet: Providing a platform for artisans, weavers, and entrepreneurs to connect with potential buyers and investors.
• Investment Round Table: Focused discussions on creating long-term economic impact in the region through investment in textiles, crafts, and other sectors.

उत्तर-पूर्व भारत की सांस्कृतिक और आर्थिक विरासत का उत्सव – ‘अष्टलक्ष्मी महोत्सव’ वेबसाइट का शुभारंभ

उत्तर-पूर्व भारत की समृद्ध सांस्कृतिक धरोहर और आर्थिक क्षमता को बढ़ावा देने की दिशा में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम के रूप में, संचार और उत्तर-पूर्वी क्षेत्र विकास मंत्रालय (DoNER) के केंद्रीय मंत्री श्री ज्योतिरादित्य एम. सिंधिया ने 13 सितंबर 2024 को अष्टलक्ष्मी महोत्सव की आधिकारिक वेबसाइट का शुभारंभ किया। यह लॉन्च संचार भवन, नई दिल्ली में हुआ, जिससे सरकार की इस क्षेत्र को राष्ट्रीय और अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर बढ़ावा देने की प्रतिबद्धता प्रकट हुई।

अष्टलक्ष्मी महोत्सव का आयोजन 6 से 8 दिसंबर 2024 के बीच भारत मंडपम, प्रगति मैदान, नई दिल्ली में होगा। यह महोत्सव आठ पूर्वोत्तर राज्यों—अरुणाचल प्रदेश, असम, मणिपुर, मेघालय, मिजोरम, नागालैंड, सिक्किम और त्रिपुरा—की सांस्कृतिक और आर्थिक समृद्धि का उत्सव होगा। इन राज्यों को सामूहिक रूप से “अष्टलक्ष्मी” कहा जाता है, जो आठ प्रकार की समृद्धि का प्रतीक है।

अष्टलक्ष्मी महोत्सव फैशन, संस्कृति और व्यापार का एक अद्वितीय मिश्रण होगा। इस महोत्सव की कुछ मुख्य विशेषताएँ निम्नलिखित हैं:

• वस्त्र प्रदर्शनी: उत्तर-पूर्व के प्रसिद्ध मूगा और एरी सिल्क की विशेष प्रदर्शनियां।
