National Exit Test (NExT) for Ayush

In a significant move for Ayush education in India, Union Minister of State for Ayush (Independent Charge), Shri Prataprao Jadhav, announced that the National Exit Test (NExT) for Ayush students will be effective starting from the 2021-2022 batch onwards. This announcement was made during a press conference held in New Delhi on September 5, 2024.

The NExT exam is a crucial step aimed at streamlining the licensing process for Ayush practitioners and ensuring the highest standards in Ayush healthcare education. Shri Jadhav also introduced a major nationwide campaign, “Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan,” aimed at promoting health and well-being through natural practices.

NExT for Ayush: A game changer

The National Exit Test (NExT) is a mandatory exam for students pursuing degrees in Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Unani, Siddha, and Sowa-Rigpa under the National Commission for Indian System of Medicine (NCISM) and National Commission for Homoeopathy (NCH) Acts, 2020. From the 2021-2022 batch onwards, students must pass this exam to receive their licenses and register with the State or National Registers for Ayush practitioners.

The decision to implement NExT from this academic session was based on the recommendations of a committee headed by Prof. Sanjeev Sharma, Vice Chancellor of the National Institute of Ayurveda, Jaipur. The committee reviewed suggestions and concerns raised by students and recommended the structure and implementation of NExT, thereby eliminating any ambiguity.

The test will follow a problem-based examination format, featuring clinical case scenarios, images, and videos to evaluate the practical skills of Ayush graduates. It will be mandatory for those who have completed their one-year internship. Those students who qualify in the NExT exam but have not completed their internships will be allowed to register with the state or national boards only after finishing their one-year internship.

Ensuring transparency and quality in Ayush education

The NExT aims to maintain transparency and fairness in the Ayush education system while enhancing the quality of healthcare provided by Ayush practitioners. By evaluating clinical competencies, understanding of medical ethics, and the ability to handle medico-legal cases, this examination will set a new benchmark for Ayush graduates.

Both the NCISM Act, 2020 and the NCH Act, 2020, which came into effect on June 11, 2021, and July 5, 2021, respectively, outline the necessity of conducting the National Exit Test within three years from the enforcement of these Acts. This ensures a standardized evaluation of Ayush graduates across India.

Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan: A nationwide campaign

During the same press conference, Shri Prataprao Jadhav launched a massive nationwide campaign called “Desh Ka Prakriti Parikshan Abhiyan,” which is focused on improving the health and well-being of Indian citizens through natural health practices.

The campaign will be led by the Ministry of Ayush and the NCISM and will involve over 4.5 lakh participants, including 1,35,000 students, 20,000 postgraduate students, 18,000 teachers, and 3 lakh practitioners from the Ayush community. The primary goal of the campaign is to raise public interest in Ayurveda, promote the adoption of natural healthcare solutions, and contribute to the economic growth of the Ayush sector.

Aiming for world records

In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of integrating Ayurveda into daily life, encapsulated by the mantra ‘Jan-Jan Tak Ayurveda’ and ‘Har-Ghar Ayurveda’, this campaign is also ambitious in its goal to set five Guinness World Records. The Minister expressed optimism that these efforts will not only popularize Ayurveda but also elevate India’s standing globally in natural health practices.

भारत में आयुष शिक्षा के क्षेत्र में एक महत्वपूर्ण कदम के रूप में, स्वतंत्र प्रभार केंद्रीय आयुष मंत्री श्री प्रतापराव जाधव ने 5 सितंबर 2024 को नई दिल्ली में एक प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस के दौरान घोषणा की कि नेशनल एग्जिट टेस्ट (NExT) आयुष छात्रों के लिए 2021-2022 बैच से लागू होगा।

आयुष के लिए NExT: एक महत्वपूर्ण बदलाव

नेशनल एग्जिट टेस्ट (NExT) आयुर्वेद, होम्योपैथी, यूनानी, सिद्ध और सोवा-रिग्पा के तहत पढ़ाई कर रहे छात्रों के लिए नेशनल कमीशन फॉर इंडियन सिस्टम ऑफ मेडिसिन (NCISM) और नेशनल कमीशन फॉर होम्योपैथी (NCH) एक्ट 2020 के तहत अनिवार्य परीक्षा है। 2021-2022 बैच से, छात्रों को इस परीक्षा को पास करना होगा ताकि वे राज्य या राष्ट्रीय पंजीकृत आयुष चिकित्सक बनने के योग्य हो सकें।

इस शैक्षणिक सत्र से NExT को लागू करने का निर्णय नेशनल इंस्टीट्यूट ऑफ आयुर्वेद, जयपुर के कुलपति प्रो. संजीव शर्मा की अध्यक्षता में गठित समिति की सिफारिशों के आधार पर लिया गया। समिति ने छात्रों की चिंताओं की समीक्षा की और NExT की संरचना और क्रियान्वयन की सिफारिश की, जिससे किसी भी प्रकार की अस्पष्टता को समाप्त किया गया।

यह परीक्षा एक समस्या-आधारित परीक्षा प्रारूप का अनुसरण करेगी, जिसमें क्लिनिकल केस परिदृश्य, चित्र और वीडियो के माध्यम से छात्रों के प्रायोगिक कौशल का आकलन किया जाएगा। यह परीक्षा एक वर्षीय इंटर्नशिप पूरी करने के बाद अनिवार्य होगी। जो छात्र NExT परीक्षा पास करेंगे, लेकिन इंटर्नशिप पूरी नहीं करेंगे, उन्हें राज्य या राष्ट्रीय बोर्डों में पंजीकरण के लिए इंटर्नशिप पूरा करने के बाद ही अनुमति मिलेगी।

आयुष शिक्षा में पारदर्शिता और गुणवत्ता सुनिश्चित करना

NExT का उद्देश्य आयुष शिक्षा प्रणाली में पारदर्शिता और निष्पक्षता बनाए रखना है और आयुष चिकित्सकों द्वारा प्रदान की जाने वाली स्वास्थ्य सेवाओं की गुणवत्ता में सुधार करना है। यह परीक्षा क्लिनिकल दक्षताओं, चिकित्सीय नैतिकता की समझ और मेडिको-लीगल मामलों को संभालने की क्षमता का मूल्यांकन करेगी, जिससे आयुष स्नातकों के लिए एक नई गुणवत्ता का मानदंड स्थापित होगा।

NCISM अधिनियम 2020 और NCH अधिनियम 2020, जो क्रमशः 11 जून 2021 और 5 जुलाई 2021 से लागू हुए, इन अधिनियमों के प्रवर्तन की तारीख से तीन वर्षों के भीतर नेशनल एग्जिट टेस्ट (NExT) के आयोजन की आवश्यकता को निर्धारित करते हैं। इससे पूरे भारत में आयुष स्नातकों के मूल्यांकन में मानकीकरण सुनिश्चित होता है।

देश का प्रकृति परीक्षण अभियान: एक देशव्यापी अभियान

उसी प्रेस कॉन्फ्रेंस के दौरान, श्री प्रतापराव जाधव ने “देश का प्रकृति परीक्षण अभियान” नामक एक बड़े राष्ट्रव्यापी अभियान की शुरुआत की, जिसका उद्देश्य भारतीय नागरिकों के स्वास्थ्य और कल्याण में सुधार करना है।

यह अभियान आयुष मंत्रालय और NCISM द्वारा संचालित किया जाएगा और इसमें 4.5 लाख से अधिक प्रतिभागी, जिनमें 1,35,000 छात्र, 20,000 स्नातकोत्तर छात्र, 18,000 शिक्षक, और 3 लाख आयुष चिकित्सक शामिल होंगे। इस अभियान का मुख्य उद्देश्य आयुर्वेद के प्रति जनसाधारण की रुचि को बढ़ाना और आयुष क्षेत्र की आर्थिक वृद्धि को बढ़ावा देना है।
